Welcome to Unconditionally Her and the beautiful month of April. Another winter is behind us and another spring here at last with so much awakening in front of our very eyes. What’s on YOUR agenda this month? I’ll share what’s on ours – and we have plenty!
It’s always a good time to talk about health, and spring is no exception. During the first week of April, we recognize National Public Health Week, and as a decades-long public health professional, it is always my pleasure to introduce folks to the field of public health and its many, many functions that go unnoticed, yet keep our world healthier and safer. I personally want to thank each reader who takes the time to read the upcoming feature on National Public Health Week to learn more about the field that outside of a pandemic, gets far less attention than it deserves, yet gives so much to keep us all healthy and safe. April 7th is also World Health Day. Sponsored by the World Health Organization, also known as “the WHO,” World Health Day is an opportunity to reflect on how we can build a fairer and healthier world — one where all people are able to live healthy lives and access quality health services. And speaking of health, with the weather warming and creating a comfortable environment to get outdoors more, our bodies and minds are awakening much like the budding trees and flowers. Many of us find ourselves being more active and starting to steer away from some of those warm winter comfort foods and moving towards lighter fare such as salads, fruits, and veggies. Spring is a time of religious observance for many which may include a time for quiet and reflection as well as time for families to gather, worship, and be together. It’s also time to “lighten up” and laugh as we celebrate the beginning of this beautiful season. So much packed into one month!
Unconditionally Her is pleased to celebrate this “season of awakening” with our readers. We will tantalize the taste buds this month with spring-weather goodies – how about Coconut Lemon Almond Muffins? Or Cream of Coconut Margarita, anyone?!? It’s all about moderation, so enjoy! We’ll show you how to create a beautiful spring tablescape, make you laugh with our personal interest story submitted by our amazingly creative and always funny writer, Cindy Small, about her adventures with a spring estate sale, and give you the scoop on National Public Health week with a personal challenge for all. We also have an exciting announcement to share with you about the UNTOLD Campus Diaries initiative. Stay tuned for that!
I’ll share my favorite spring quote from Lady Bird Johnson as I do every spring. Happy April AND Happy Spring!
“Where the flowers bloom, so does hope.”
