Welcome to Unconditionally Her and the refreshing and renewing month of April! The vibrancy of spring breathes new life into the world around us with flowers blooming, trees getting their green on again, and bunnies appearing in gardens and field – or on front porches like my new bunny topiaries I was so excited to display, or my “Bunny in a Bug” pillow!  This time of the year brings a sense of optimism and is a great time to celebrate and refresh the mind, body, and spirit. Whether you’re hopping into a new fitness routine or simply enjoying the springtime joy, this month is all about revitalization and embracing the season’s potential.

There is plenty in store this month to refresh and rejuvenate -food, books, travel, friendship, and more.  Unconditionally Her is excited about what’s in the queue.   Destination Diaries will feature the fabulous St. Lucia, Taste of Traditions brings Sandy’s tantalizing Bologna Salad, Becky’s Book Club brings us “The Tell,” and Cindy Small spills the tea on old houses – the good, the bad, and everything in between with owning an older home.  My A Time to Bloom health and wellness coaching article will help with any needed “spring cleaning” of the mind, and I’m back with my second Dose of Gratitude feature which will also focus on the mind and cultivating mindfulness in this crazy thing we call life.

I simply cannot miss an opportunity to include something health-focused in my editor’s letter this month. As a public health professional when I am not serving as editor for the magazine, I like to acknowledge public health workers around the world this month.  We’ve been celebrating National Public Health Week, now for 30 years!  If you know a public health worker – and remember, public health workers may work in many capacities, and not all are located in a health department – thank them for keeping our world healthier and safer.   Did you know that over the last 150 years, Americans live an average of 35 years longer today?   Much of this can be attributed to public health’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of communities across the globe.  If you want to learn more about public health, a great place to start is the American Public Health Association.  A short 4-minute video is posted that gives a really nice overview.

On a similar note, April 7th is World Health Day, sponsored by the World Health Organization, also known as “the WHO, is an opportunity to reflect on how we can build a healthier world.   This year’s focus is on mothers and babies – how exciting!  April also has national recognition days for minority health awareness, stress awareness, alcohol awareness, and defeating diabetes amongst several others.  We hope this month our readers will reflect on their health and wellbeing as well as those they love and perhaps learn more about some of the great work being done by many wonderful health-focused organizations that benefit us all.

May you enjoy this month’s magazine and find yourself refreshed and recharged this spring season.   April, here we come!

Be Encouraged, Be Empowered, Be Inspired – Be Unconditionally YOU!
