I have to admit, there are few summer cocktails I enjoy more than a refreshing Lemon Drop. It’s bright, crisp, and the perfect way to end a warm day, whether I’m sitting on the porch or watching the sun settle over Center Hill Lake.

But every now and then, I find myself wanting something just a little different.

Not sweeter. Not overly complicated. Just a fresh twist on an old favorite.

That’s exactly how the Blue Hour Lemon Drop came to be. Fresh lemon is still the star, but homemade blueberry syrup adds just enough sweetness and a beautiful hint of summer without overpowering the drink. The result is refreshing, elegant, and every bit as relaxing as the final hour before sunset.

There’s something magical about that time of day at the lake. The boats begin finding their slips, conversations grow quieter, and the water catches the last golden light before the sky fades to blue. It’s the kind of moment that reminds you to slow down, breathe a little deeper, and simply enjoy where you are.

Whether you’re entertaining friends or savoring a quiet evening on the dock, I hope the Blue Hour Lemon Drop becomes one of those recipes you reach for all summer long.

Here’s to beautiful sunsets, good friends, and making time for the moments that matter most.

Make the Blueberry Syrup

Combine blueberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan.

Bring to a gentle simmer for 10–12 minutes, lightly crushing the berries as they soften.

Strain through a fine-mesh sieve and allow the syrup to cool completely.

Store refrigerated for up to two weeks.

Directions

If using a sugar rim, rub a lemon wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip into fine sugar.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add vodka, fresh lemon juice, blueberry syrup, and simple syrup.

Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds until thoroughly chilled.

Fill a stemless rocks glass with fresh ice and strain the cocktail over the ice.

Garnish with fresh blueberries and a lemon slice.

Favorite part: Sip slowly while watching the sunset.

Blueberry Shortcut

Don’t have blueberry syrup. Well, I didn’t either. So, I tried this.  1 tablespoon blueberry preserves with 1 tablespoon warm water and whisk until completely smooth. Allow it to cool, then use it in place of the blueberry syrup.
