Raising two boys in the ’90s meant I became well-versed in the world of superheroes. From Spider-Man’s web-slinging escapades to Superman’s gravity-defying feats, I couldn’t help but get swept up in the excitement of it all. And, naturally, it got me thinking—if I could have any superpower, which one would I choose? The ability to fly? Super strength? Invisibility? Nah. I’d pick luck.

Yes, luck! Imagine the possibilities! I’d be the ultimate hero. Luck would open up a world of endless successes. A little roll of the dice, and I’m hitting the jackpot at the roulette table. A mere glance, and I’m securing the best dinner reservation in town. I could waltz into any store and find the perfect parking spot right in front of the door—every single time! I’d be living my best life, with the world as my oyster, no effort required. Who needs to fight crime when you’ve got luck on your side?

Well, it’s March now—and with St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, I can’t help but think about the idea of luck, especially since the Irish are practically synonymous with it. The whole notion of being “lucky” has deep roots in Irish culture—thanks to their folklore, history, and charming symbols. From the shamrock, which St. Patrick famously used to teach about the Holy Trinity, to the mischievous leprechauns guarding their pots of gold at the end of rainbows, luck has always been intertwined with the Emerald Isle. Add to that the Irish reputation for resilience and perseverance, and it’s easy to see why they’re considered some of the luckiest folks around.

Whether it’s stumbling upon a four-leaf clover in a field of green, or simply having the stars align when you need them most, the Irish have long been seen as the ultimate embodiment of good fortune. So maybe, just maybe, the Irish really are onto something with their luck. Maybe it’s not such a bad superpower after all!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find a shamrock in my Cereal Milk Latte… and perhaps some gold while I’m at it.

Cereal Milk Cold Latte

1 cup milk of choice
1 cup cereal (We prefer chocolate or since it’s St. Patrick’s Month, try some Lucky Charms)
1 shot of espresso (completely cooled)
Whipped cream, optional
1 teaspoon of cereal for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Brew your espresso and let completely cool.

Place the milk and cereal in a bowl, stir to combine, and place the bowl in the fridge. Allow to sit for at least an hour (or even overnight!).

Strain the milk through a fine mesh strainer and into the glass and discard the soaked cereal.

Crush ice (if desired) and pour the cooled espresso into your tall glass of choice.

Garnish, as desired, and serve!
