Like peas and carrots, January and resolutions seem to go together. Have you made your resolutions? Are you dedicated to your work, your health, your personal growth? And now that we’re halfway through the month, are you still holding onto them, or have they already started to slip away, tucked into the corners of forgotten hopes? Perhaps you’ve thought about just letting them go and waiting until next year to try again.

For the past few years, I’ve chosen to take a different approach. Rather than setting lofty goals that often feel too distant to reach—like losing 50 pounds or committing to a daily workout—I’ve picked a single word. A word to live into, to anchor me when I need guidance, to remind me of the person I want to be. It’s not about perfection; it’s about intention. This word becomes my compass, helping me stay true to my principles, my dreams, and my heart.

Some years, my word is one of reflection—persistence, renew, gratitude, sabbath. Other years, it’s a word of change—rely, reset, reform, revamp. Each one holds space for growth, for the chance to focus on what matters most in the season of life I’m in.

Maybe this year, instead of a resolution, you’ll find your word. A word that guides you gently through the days, reminding you of your strength and your journey ahead. What word will you choose to live into this year? Something to contemplate over this month’s Chocolate Almond Cappuccino.

Chocolate Almond Cappuccino

4oz almond milk

1/4 chopped dark chocolate (plus more for garnish)

1/4 tsp almond extract

2 oz espresso

Sliced almonds for garnish

Directions:

In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the almond milk, dark chocolate and almond extract. Warm, whisking constantly (for about one minute) or until it bubbles around the edges. Make sure you DO NOT BOIL.

In another cup, add the espresso and the steamed milk mixture.

Top with almonds and dark chocolate. Enjoy. (You can also add a tad bit of cinnamon for a flavor boost.)
