Embarking on a journey through the heart of autumn, Karol Mangione and I set sail aboard the Norwegian Gem, eager to experience the seasonal splendor along the eastern seaboard. From the rich history of Prince Edward Island to the charming shores of Maine, this trip was nothing short of magical.

A Step Back in Time on Prince Edward Island
Our first stop was Prince Edward Island, where we traded the ship’s deck for a scenic bus tour of this captivating isle. The highlight? Visiting the birthplace and writing house of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the beloved author of Anne of Green Gables. Immersed in the world of Anne Shirley, we felt as if we’d stepped back in time. The visit wouldn’t have been complete without meeting “Anne” herself—a delightful surprise that brought the stories to life.

Rain or Shine in Sydney, Nova Scotia
Sydney, Nova Scotia, greeted us with a drizzle, but that didn’t dampen our spirits. We ventured to the Alexander Graham Bell National Museum in Baddeck, where exhibits celebrated Bell’s revolutionary contributions to communication, aviation, and humanitarian efforts. Inspired and amazed, we capped the visit by dancing a jig (in the rain, no doubt) around the world’s largest fiddle—a whimsical nod to Nova Scotia’s musical heritage.

Halifax: A Maritime Gem
Day three led us to Halifax, a city where urban energy meets coastal beauty. Its picturesque harbor views and historic charm left us in awe. From exploring the vibrant waterfront to marveling at the timeless beauty of Peggy’s Cove, Halifax offered a blend of adventure and serenity. And who knows? We may have even made a new friend while enjoying the lively atmosphere.

Seaside Charm in Kennebunkport, Maine
On day four, we reached the charming town of Kennebunkport, a destination we’d been eagerly anticipating. Known for its historic elegance, breathtaking beaches, and vibrant art scene, this seaside gem did not disappoint. We strolled through Dock Square’s boutiques and marveled at Walker’s Point, with its stunning ocean vistas and a glimpse of the Bush family compound. The highlight? Joining the last lobster boat tour of the season—a thrilling, hands-on experience that warmed our hearts (and emptied our wallets).

Bar Harbor: Gateway to Acadia
Our final destination was the enchanting town of Bar Harbor, nestled on Mount Desert Island. A gateway to Acadia National Park, this coastal retreat is a paradise for nature lovers and foodies alike. From savoring fresh fish and chips to wandering the quaint shops and taking in the panoramic ocean views, Bar Harbor captured our hearts. Its blend of village charm and natural beauty makes it one of New England’s most beloved destinations.

As our journey came to a close, we reflected on the vibrant foliage, the incredible sights, and the cherished company. October truly doesn’t get better than this! If you’re seeking a dream itinerary for 2025, this cruise should top your list. Until next time, happy travels—and happy holidays, y’all!
