Liverpool wasn’t a place I expected to fall in love with—but it quickly earned a top spot on my list of favorites.
We disembarked from our Viking ship and made our way downtown to the square where the Beatles performed their first concert. Even after all these years, the energy still lingered in the air. From there, we visited the stunning Philharmonic, followed by a stop at the Liverpool Central Library. “Impressive” doesn’t quite do it justice. From the outside, it’s a beautiful example of classic English architecture—but step inside, and you’re transported into a sleek, modern space that seems to go on endlessly. It’s said you’d need two full days to take in everything it offers, and I believe it.
Next, we explored one of the city’s most iconic landmarks: the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. Just beside it lies the historic St. James’ Cemetery. Originally a sandstone quarry, it was repurposed into a cemetery in 1829 and now holds nearly 58,000 burials. It’s considered one of the most important Victorian graveyards in the UK—serene, eerie, and steeped in history.
Our journey continued to the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, completed in 1967. As the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool, it’s a bold piece of modernist architecture—starkly different from the Anglican Cathedral just across the way. Together, the two structures reflect the unity between Liverpool’s major Christian communities—a striking contrast and a powerful symbol of inclusiveness.

We ended the day at the Royal Albert Dock, where the energy was lively and full of life. Originally opened in 1846, it was Britain’s first building constructed entirely from cast iron, brick, and stone—a revolutionary, fire-resistant design. Once a bustling center of global trade, it’s now been transformed into a thriving cultural hub filled with museums, galleries like Tate Liverpool, shops, restaurants, and stunning views of the River Mersey. It beautifully bridges Liverpool’s industrial heritage with its dynamic present.

Of all the places we explored, Liverpool took me by surprise—in the best way. It’s absolutely worth a visit. And if you go, be sure to say hi to the Fab Four.
Thanks for joining me—see you next time!
