July.  Summer.  Finally!    The temperatures are starting to soar and folks everywhere are enjoying the outdoors – and the indoors, when we just “need” our A/C.   Yes, summertime is here and we’re making the most of it at Unconditionally Her. A time to relax and some leisurely reading for many of us. We hope part of your leisurely reading will be our magazine!

Summer brings thoughts of great seasonal recipes.  We will have several recipes this month to share including one tomorrow that is perfect for July 4th or any time you crave something a little sweet and salty (hint, hint! We’ll keep it a surprise for now, but tune in tomorrow!).  We’ll even have one for your favorite four-legged canine friend, and a few other surprise goodies to whip up as well.

We have a great Untold feature coming as well as one of our favorite contributors, Cindy Small, a recent retiree enjoying her first summer “unencumbered” to a job and sharing another great article with our readers. We have several other surprise features ready for you from new contributors who we think you will love as much as we do.

Of course, with summer we would be remiss to not talk about the sun and how to be safe while catching some rays or enjoying the great outdoors.  The health educator in me always has to make sure health topics are put out there and people are fully educated and aware of what they can do to get and stay healthy.  July is U/V safety month, so make sure you are aware of the basics of sun safety. The American Cancer Society has some great resources including a quiz where you can test your knowledge of sun safety. Take a look and educate yourself.  Do you know what some of the most common sunscreen mistakes are?  Do you know how long you can safely stay in the sun after applying sunscreen? What about your risk for skin cancer – are you at risk?  Visit the website and learn more AND enjoy the sunshine!
