February isn’t over yet, so as you plan your menu this weekend for the week ahead, take a look at the shopping list shared by Healthfinder.gov to keep your ticker in good health. Of course we should try to eat well year-round, but if those resolutions for the new year did not include being heart-friendly with your meals, or maybe they did but you find yourself slipping, now is a great time to re-start as we end “heart month” and get ready for spring.
Recommendations from the United States Department of Health and Human Services include:
- Eating less saturated and trans fats which can be found in fried foods, cakes, cookies, and fatty meats;
- Reducing sodium (salt) by looking for low-sodium or “no salt added” products such as canned goods, snack foods, and lunch meats;
- Getting more fiber by eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Here is a great grocery list to get you started on your weekend shopping. Happy shopping!
