What exactly is a Lemon Kropola?  Simply put, it’s a lemon drop martini with a little kick of bubbly.  My friend Sandy and I stumbled upon this recipe one day while watching the Food Network and decided to try it. We’re big fans of the Cocktail Hour and couldn’t resist trying a spin on this classic drink with the Craft Master and very talented Geoffrey Zakarian. Although it’s the perfect mix of sweet and tart, this drink definitely has some kick to it, so make sure to enjoy it in moderation.  Wink wink.  (Thanks, GZ!)

Lemon Kropola

Confectioners’ sugar, for rimming the glass
Lemon wedge, for rimming the glass
1 1/2 ounces vodka
1 ounce Simple Syrup
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon turbinado sugar, such as Sugar in the Raw
3/4 ounce sweet sparkling white wine, such as Moscato d’Asti
Lemon slice, for garnish

Put some confectioners’ sugar on a plate. Rim a cocktail coupe or martini glass by rubbing the lemon wedge lightly around the rim, then dipping the rim into the confectioners’ sugar.

Put the vodka, Simple Syrup, lemon juice, and turbinado sugar in a cocktail shaker, add large ice cubes, and shake vigorously. Add the sparkling white wine and tumble roll (pour back and forth between two containers) once to mix throughout. Double-strain into the prepared glass, add a lemon slice to garnish, and serve.
