#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “Get ready to be swept up in a whirlwind romance. It absolutely charmed me.”—Reese Witherspoon (A Reese’s Book Club Pick)
“The perfect book to get lost in . . . Josie Silver’s characters sneak their way into your heart and stay.”—Jill Santopolo, author of The Light We Lost
Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic . . . and then her bus drives away.
Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.
What follows for Laurie, Sarah, and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming, and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

Okay, I’ll admit it…I loved this book. Does it contain life lessons that will change your life? No. But is it a warm, sweet story about true friendship? Absolutely.
While the story centers on Laurie and the “bus boy,” the part I loved most was the friendship between Laurie and Sarah. Their bond is genuine and heartfelt. They meet as college roommates, quickly become best friends, and essentially grow into adulthood together. Sarah seems to have everything going her way, and even when Laurie doesn’t, she is sincerely happy for Sarah’s successes. Laurie and Jack’s developing relationship is deeply influenced by their desire not to hurt Sarah, even as their feelings for each other become harder to ignore.
What frustrated me—though I hesitate to call it a dislike—was how long it took for everyone to admit their true feelings and just talk things through with Sarah. There’s so much I want to say here, but I don’t want to give anything away! The story takes a turn when Laurie decides she needs to protect herself and leaves for Thailand. This part was frustrating as well, as it felt like she was settling. Still, all is forgiven by the ending.
I loved the character development, the situations the characters found themselves in, and, of course, the ending. My one true dislike was Oscar. I could not stand pretentious Oscar or his overbearing mother.
I read this book for the first time last Christmas and loved it just as much when I reread it this Christmas.
