Welcome to the August issue of Unconditionally Her!
Wow. August already?! It always catches me by surprise. Every. Single. Year.
It quietly arrives as a month filled with in-between moments. Summer is still very much with us, but there is a subtle shift in the air toward routines, reflection, and perhaps even a little reinvention. August invites us to savor what is still here while gently preparing for what comes next. Somehow, it always seems to arrive faster than I expect.
For me, August also happens to be my birthday month, which may explain why I’ve always had a soft spot for celebrations and sweet surprises. One of my favorite birthday memories came from my family, who surprised me with a cake decorated with the image of my beloved Siamese cat and faithful companion, Sam. It wasn’t just the beautiful cake that touched my heart—it was the thought behind it. There is something incredibly special about feeling known, loved, and celebrated in such a personal way.

Maybe that’s why this season has me thinking about the little things that stay with us long after the moment has passed. A thoughtful gesture. A favorite family recipe. A story that arrives exactly when we need it. A place that allows us to breathe deeply. A memory that still brings a smile years later.
Sometimes the moments that shape us most aren’t the grand occasions at all. They’re the quiet reminders that we are seen, loved, appreciated, and still wonderfully capable of being surprised.
This month, the August issue of Unconditionally Her is filled with those kinds of moments.
Karen invites us into vulnerable places through The Places We Quietly Fall Apart, celebrates small-town charm in The Magic of Boutiques, and reminds us that reinvention has no age limit in Reinventing at Eighty-Two.
Allison carries us into the breathtaking Swiss Alps in The Art of Doing Nothing, while Lori takes us across continents in Around the World in 28 Days. Becky leads this month’s Book Club with This Story Could Save Your Life, while Sandy, Gino, Karen, and many of our wonderful contributors continue to celebrate the flavors of late summer through recipes and stories that remind us to savor every remaining warm afternoon.
You’ll also discover thoughtful conversations about wellness, nostalgia, friendship, travel, personal growth, and the everyday choices that quietly shape our lives.
Kiya reminds us in Eighty Summers Isn’t a Lot When You Do the Math… Choose Wisely that our seasons are precious. Syd explores the ways grief and stress reveal themselves in our bodies—and how healing begins with paying attention. In my own A Time to Bloom, I’m sharing why we should all Read Our Way to Well-Being, and in Tea & Tidbits, I’m keeping this month’s destination a surprise. Somehow that feels perfectly fitting for August, because some stories are meant to unfold slowly, one peaceful sip at a time.

As you spend time with us throughout the month, I hope you discover something that feels like your own little August surprise.
Perhaps it’s a story that encourages your heart.
A recipe you’ll make again and again.
A destination that inspires your next adventure.
Or maybe it’s simply a memory that quietly returns and reminds you to savor this beautiful season while it’s still here.
Whatever you find, I hope this month’s issue becomes a gentle reminder that life is often made extraordinary through its smallest comforts and sweetest surprises.
Be Encouraged. Be Empowered. Be Inspired. Be Unconditionally YOU!

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”
— Often attributed to A.A. Milne, beloved author of Winnie-the-Pooh
