As a follow-up to our earlier feature “Chilly? Cold? Extreme Cold? Staying Safe,” given the recent news of snow storms predicted for some parts of the country, we’ve had the fluffy white stuff on the mind.   What do the terms “blizzard,” “blowing snow,” “avalanche,” and “snow squall,” – among others – really mean?   We went back to the The National Weather Service  to find out more.

Snow Storm Safety has great information on what each of those terms mean and explains some of the hazards of heavy snow. Links are provided for local weather forecasts as well as resources on climate trends, how to measure snow, and more.

It sure is pretty, but snow can also wreak havoc. Educate yourself and be informed!
