When I found out I was moving to Great Britain, I was excited to experience some of the staples of the British food culture. These included the familiar ones, like shepherds pie, bangers and mash, and of course fish and chips. Imagine my surprise when I found out Indian curries top the list of most prepared foods in the UK!

Indian curries contain many cancer fighting ingredients, including turmeric, garlic, and chilies. Turmeric’s primary cancer fighting element is curcumin. Studies have shown its ability to reduce angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels in tumors), metastasis (spread of cancer), as well as its contribution to the death of cancerous cells.

In addition, curcumin boosts the activity of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes.

Thus, curcumin delivers a one-two punch against free radicals by blocking them directly, and then stimulating the body’s own antioxidant mechanisms.

Because of its health benefits and fantastic flavor, turmeric is definitely a worthwhile ingredient to incorporate in your diet. I started playing with this ingredient in some of my go to meals and was amazed at how versatile and tasty it was.

So enjoy this simple recipe that make turmeric the star!
