When a Song Becomes a Cocktail
The Whipped Lemon Drop Recipe Inspired by Emily Ann Roberts
There are certain songs that don’t just get stuck in your head—they take you home.
Lately, I’ve become a pretty big Emily Ann Roberts fan. Somewhere along the way, I also became a little addicted to watching her Instagram. Whether she was sharing life on the road or posting from Sasser House, I’d find myself watching her plant, harvest, and can everything from her garden.
The more I watched, the more I realized why I couldn’t look away.
She reminded me of myself.
Or maybe…she reminded this 58-year-old of the little girl I used to be.
I grew up in the hills of Northeast Georgia, where gardens were simply part of life. So one afternoon, while humming along to Emily Ann’s “Whipped” and watering my own little herb garden, I was suddenly transported back to those carefree summer days.
It’s funny how a song can do that.
About that time, I realized I was thirsty.
My friend Sandy Williams had recently introduced me to whipped cream vodka. I was skeptical—but one sip changed my mind.
Standing there with herbs in one hand and Emily Ann singing “Whipped,” it hit me.
A lemon drop… made with whipped cream vodka…
There was really only one thing to call it.
The Whipped Lemon Drop.
So here’s to Emily Ann for the music, Sandy for the vodka recommendation, and all the simple moments that somehow become our sweetest memories.
Cheers!

The Whipped Lemon Drop
Ingredients
- 1½ ounces vodka
- ½ ounce whipped cream vodka
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- ¾ ounce simple syrup
- Sugar and fresh lemon zest for the rim
- Ice
- A generous dollop of whipped cream
Directions
Rim a chilled martini glass with lemon juice, then dip it in sugar mixed with a little fresh lemon zest.
Shake both vodkas, lemon juice, and simple syrup with ice until well chilled. Strain into the prepared glass, top with a generous dollop of whipped cream, and finish with a sprinkle of fresh lemon zest.
Turn on Emily Ann Roberts’ “Whipped,” head to the porch, and enjoy.
